Wenchi: Bus carrying 15 School children bursts into flames

A bus carrying 15 school children and teachers of Western Link Educational Complex in Wenchi  in the Bono Region burst into flames fire while on motion.

MyNewsGh.com sources reveal that the vehicle was heading to Akrobi near Wenchi but caught fire close to the Wenchi Central SDA Church at about 4:20 Pm on Saturday November 23, 2019.

A local journalist from the area, Nana Anfreh Damanta reports that both staff and pupils escaped unhurt with minor injuries in the fire but the cause is still unknown

The Wenchi Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, ADO 1, Mr, Oppong Kusi said they were called to the scene at about 4:20 pm on Saturday to a vehicle fire in Wenchi off Akrobi road.

According to him there were 11 children and 4 including 3 teachers and the driver of the vehicle on board who were evacuated.

The victims are said to have sustained minor injuries and were sent to the Wenchi Methodist hospital for treatment but have since been discharged.

The Fire Officer advised school authorities to do a routine maintenance on their school buses to avoid recurrence of such incidents in the future and also cautioned school authorities against overloading pupils in vehicles.
