
The United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has donated N105 million to 440 Islamiyya schools across 44 local government in Kano state, to support Islamic education.
Mrs. Miki Koide, Education Specialist UNICEF, Kano Office, disclosed this during the launching of Qur’anic and Islamiyya support program on Sunday at Kano state government house
Mrs. Koide said UNICEF donated education improvement grants to over 300 formal schools and 420 Islamic Qu’aranic schools worth N180 million in collaboration with Kano state government.
Similarly, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje also donated N10 million and food items to 1000 Islamic headteachers (Alaramma) drawn from 1000 Tsangaya schools across Kano state.
Mr. Ganduje said the gesture was part of his free and compulsory basic and secondary education programme.
He said the state government has commenced the integration of Tsangaya schools into the conventional education system.
