
There is a brewing tension at Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana due to an arrest of some National Democratic Congress NDC youth by some National Security Personnel, a source has said.
Information reaching this portal indicates that some individuals claiming to National security operatives have picked up some youth within the Asawasi Constituency in the Ashanti Region for allegedly in connection with the recent murder of Mfantsiman Member of Parliament.
According to the source, the youth were picked up at the premises of the Constituency office of the National Democratic Congress in Asawase.
However, in a short video sighted by this portal indicate that some youth purported to be NDC supporters stormed that a police station in Asawase requesting for the release of the arrested youth. The enraged youth were heard chanting party slogans and threatened “not to go anywhere under no circumstances” if their demands were not met. Details of the of what transpired at the Asawase Police Station can be seen in the video. They further accused the current administration of trying to frustrate the opposition party ahead of this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
In a phone interview with the Communication Director of Asawase Constituency, Mr. Yakubu Tony Aidoo stated that the arrest of the NDC youth are politically motivated and an attempt to frustrate the opposition party.
He stated emphatically that “the police Commander in Asawase is an NPP sympathize whose aim is to ensure that the NDC losses the Asawase seat”.
