Sanusi’s Dethronement, Banishment Condemned by Amnesty International

The dethronement of the former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II has been condemned Amnesty International.

In a series of tweets last Tuesday, Amnesty International is palpably against the decision to banish the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) after he was dethroned.

“Amnesty International calls on Nigerian authorities to respect the human rights of former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II; his right to dignity, freedom of expression and freedom of movement,” it said.

The former Emir of Kano was not only dethroned but his movement has been restricted in fact he was airlifted to Nasarawa and placed incommunicado. Amnesty International believes this act is against his human rights and violates his constitutional rights as a Nigerian and international human rights law. Nigerian authorities are therefore urged to respect the fundamental human rights of the former Emir of Kano.
