The Director General of Kano State Agency for the Control of Aids, Dr. Sabitu Shanono has sought the intervention of traditional rulers in fighting the menace of HIV/AIDS in Kano state.

He described the role of traditional rulers and community leaders as crucial in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the state.

Mr Shanono, a medical doctor, made the appeal on Friday when he paid an advocacy visit to the Emir of Bichi Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero in his palace as part of the preparations for the forthcoming world AIDS day.

A statement sent to Kano Focus by SACA’s spokesperson, Aminu Bello quoted Mr Shanono as saying HIV/AIDS remains a threat to public health that requires communal efforts.

He said part of the activities scheduled to commemorate the day include multi disease community outreach in all the five emirates of the state, a rally and stakeholders sensitization meetings in all the 44 local government areas of the State.

In his remarks, Emir Bayero expressed delight over the visit and charged the agency to embark on rigorous sensitization campaign on the dangers of the virus.

The emir directed all the traditional and religious leaders to give maximum support toward the success of the programme.
