
The Muslim community in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday marked the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) in a colourful event at the Lord’s Wembley, Shukrura. The event was organized jointly by the Islamic Foundation for Peace and Development (IFPAD) and the Supreme Council for Tijaniya Islamic Affairs, Ghana under the leadership of Sheikh Yahaya Amin.
It was attended by a cross-section of Muslims, including Papa Lamin Nyass (the son of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass), former President John Mahama, the Vice President, Dr Mahmoud Bawumia, the Imam of Kano and other high profile delegations from different walks of life. Sheikh Lamin of Senegal used the occasion to pray for Allah’s continuous blessings of peace and prosperity for Ghana and Africa at large.
Also in attendance was the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central Constituency, Hon Ebenezer Nii Narh Nartey, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Ablekuma Central, Hon. Abdul Latif Dan and representatives of the National and Constituency Executives of the NDC.
Former President urged the congregation to emulate the virtues of the Holy Prophet adding that the prophet interacted well with his companion and non-Muslims alike. He further admonished the youth to pursue the path of peaceful co-existence, live a life of humility.
Maulid is characterised by Quranic recitation eulogies for prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.S) and exhortations by Muslim scholars for Muslims to remain steadfast and uphold the virtues of Islam as practised by the Holy Prophet.
