Kano state to establish drugs abuse control agency

Kano state government says it will soon establish a drugs abuse control agency to reduce the demand for, and supply of, illicit drugs in the state.

Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna announced this on Tuesday while destroying fake, counterfeit, and illicit substances at the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)’s premises in Kano.

Mr Gawuna, who represented Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said that drug use test is now a prerequisite for employment and appointments in Kano state public service.

In his remarks Commissioner of Health Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa said his ministry is partnering with stakeholders to rid Kano state of the menace of drugs abuse.

Mr Tsanyawa said such stakeholders include the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, National Agency for Foods Drugs, Administration and Control (NAFDAC), National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and security agencies.
