Kano cleric blames parents for ‘moral decadence’ in society

A renowned Kano-based Islamic scholar Sheik Umar Sani Fagge has blamed lack of proper parental guidance and monitoring of children by parents as the main cause of “moral decadence” in the society.

Sheik Fagge made the remarks in during  an event organized to proffer solutions to the increasing problems of drug misuse, thuggery, prostitution and other social vices in Kano society.

Kano Focus reports that the event titled “Moral Decadence in Our Society and the Way Out” was held on Friday in Kano.

While urging parents to ensure strict supervision of children, Sheik Fagge, expressed dismay over how youth are involved in all forms of immorality in the society.

He said in other to effectively address moral issues, “there should be a collaborative effort between government, parent and general public”.

The cleric also called on media organizations to be fully involved in solving problems through enlightenment programs, adding that they have a vital role to play in that direction.

In his remarks, chairman of Fagge local government area, Ibrahim Abdullahi said his council decided to organize the lecture to address the problems facing the community.
