The Igbo Diaspora King in the Republic of Ghana , His Royal Majesty, Eze (Dr.) Amb. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, has joined the Nigerian President, H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and other prominent African leaders to congratulate Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, on her election as the incoming Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations; which Nigeria is a strategic member.
4th Estate Reporters- Ghana, had earlier reported last weekend, that leaders of the 56 Commonwealth Nations meeting in Apia, Samoa, elected Botchwey, a 61-year-old former lawmaker who has served as Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister for the last seven years, as the 7th Secretary-General.
In a congratulatory message he personally signed from his revered Obiukwu, ObiIgbo , Obieziokwu royal palace in Ghana, and made available to his Country- Director on Media Strategy & Communications, Njoku Macdonald Obinna, EzeIgbo Ghana, Amb. Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu, while sending his felicitations to the newly elected Commonwealth Secretary General, Mrs. Shirley Botchwey, expressed confidence in her capacity to deliver given her extensive career in public administration, diplomacy, foreign affairs and regional development.
The Amazon, Shirley Botchwey, is the second African to be elected Secretary-General of the Commonwealth in its 75-year history, after Chief Emeka Anyaoku of Nigeria, who served in that position from July 1, 1990, to March 31, 2000.
From her wealth of experience and track record of performance, Eze Ihenetu, therefore, trusts that Botchwey’s leadership experience will bring renewed energy to the Commonwealth’s efforts to advance meaningful economic and political partnerships that drive development and amplify the bloc’s voice in global affairs; as he strongly maintains that she has the backing and support of the Igbos and Nigerians living in Ghana for the top commonwealth job.
