Greater Accra Maulid Organizing Committee Honors Lord Commey

This year’s Greater Accra Maulid was graced by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Minister for Zongo and Inner City Development, Hon Mustapha Hamid, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central Constituency Ebenezer Nii Narh Nartey, Technical Adviser at the Office of the Vice President Alhaji Usman Yunus popularly known as Dr Oluman as well as traditional rulers and Islamic clerics.

The Director of Operations at the Jubilee House seat of government Lord Oblitey Commey has been honoured by the committee charged with organizing the Greater Accra Regional Maulid. The award was in recognition of his efforts and contributions towards the successful organization of the Maulid.

Lord Commey was decorated with nice apparel (Agbada) by Sheikh Yahaya Amin who is also the Founder and Leader of the Islamic Foundation for Peace and Development (IFPAD) and Deputy Supreme Leader of the Supreme Council of Tijaniya Islamic Affairs Ghana. Sheikh Yahaya Amin is a renowned Islamic scholar who commenced the Maulid over five decades now.

The chairman of the Maulid planning committee, Alhaji Rufai Meigaisuwa indicated that the committee was very elated, given that they had wanted to do this during the event last year but Lord Commey was engaged outside the jurisdiction.

Presenting the award, the Master of ceremony and Deputy Executive Secretary of IFPAD Ibrahim Anyass Ahmed said “As an indigene of Shukura, Lord Commey has been instrumental in the development of his community and has played a critical role in transforming the lives of the youths in the community. For instance, he assisted in establishing the Zongo Youth for Development (ZOYFOD), an association tasked with the development of the Zongo communities and harnessing the potentials of the youth through education, acquire vocational and technical skills and making them self reliance.”
