Chair of Zango Youth Chiefs Outlines Measures To prevent Electoral Violence In Zangos

The Chairman of Zango Youth Chiefs who is also the President of Zango Youth Dialogue With Police Project, Alhaji Salisu Maude has said; various youth leaders across the Zango communities in the country under his leadership have put in place measures that will help promote peace, before, during and after the general elections slated for December 7 this year.

Sarki Salisu Maude who doubles as the Chief of Greater Accra Hausa Youth made this known in an interview with BBC Hausa radio.

He stated that his leadership will organize outreach programs to remind the youth especially the Zango youth to prioritize peace.

He revealed that the youth in various Zango communities have been urged to be ambassadors of peace ahead of the election while the leadership will engage the masses through radio and television programs as well as on social media handles.

This among others he said are measures put in place in ensuring peace in Ghana and safeguarding the country’s democracy.

According to him, there are possibilities of mayhem during the elections; hence, the need for him as the Chairman of Zango youth Chiefs to come out with measures that will educate the Zango youth to encourage them to say no to any political party or politician that may come to them to foment trouble during the upcoming elections.

He said the organization has over the years campaigned for peace but it is time for all the youth Chiefs to come together and engage the youth to rise against violence and any act that will bring not only the name of Zango but Ghana into disrepute. He said the youth must rather become agents of peace and nation builders.

Sarki Salisu Maude further stated that peace is one of the essential tools that everyone will love to have and it will be prudent for the Zango youth to take the centre stage to protect it with all that they have.

Speaking on Maamobi violence between the opposition National Democratic Congress and the ruling New Patriotic Party which resulted in a shooting incident, the Youth Chief commended the Ghana Police Service for their swift intervention in bringing tensions down and the arrest of the perpetrators.

He called on Zango youth to stay away from acts that will tarnish the reputation of the Zango communities adding that Ghana has held many successful and incident free elections therefore this year’s elections should not be different.

This,  according to him cannot be achieved without the involvement of the Zango youth and other stakeholders related to peace advocacies in the country.
