The Tamascheq community in Ghana on Saturday , January 25 held a meeting under one umbrella to brainstorm on development and welfare.
The meeting also sought to promotion their culture and mark a historic milestone in their journey to Ghana before independence.
The gathering brought together Tamascheq Chiefs from all the 16 regions, a move described by members as a significant achievement to push the progress of their people in Ghana.
Speaking on the sidelines of the gathering, the Secretary of Tamascheq community, Alhaji Osuman Alhassan revealed that the people of Tamascheq were known as Buzu in the past and have been in Ghana before independence and have contributed to the socio-economic growth of the country.
He revealed that the people of Tamascheq came from countries such as, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso and have migrated into other African countries.
He said there is the need for them as elders and Chiefs to come together and unite their front so as to live in peace with others and contribute their quota to their development.
Alhaji Osuman Alhassan stated that the Chiefs discussed plans to form a council of Tamascheq Chiefs that will steer the affairs of their people and any community in Ghana they find themselves.
He said there are measures to ensure unity among themselves and ensure that no other tribe installs a chief. He said the regional Chiefs will rather install anyone interested in becoming a community Chief.
This among others he said are decisions from the National Chief of Tamascheq community in Ghana, Sarki Mamudu Innalgah which all the 16 regional Chiefs have supported for the betterment of the people of Tamascheq.
Alhaji Osuman Alhassan called on the people of Tamascheq in the Greater Accra Region to come out in their numbers and support the formation of the council as well as ensure unity among themselves.
